The cat is out of the bag now as Rogers is following through with the report that they will be handing out free HTC Magics to any willing Dream owners. They are doing this only for HTC Dream owners because of the highly anticipated Android 2.1 update which, sadly, cannot manage to run effectively with the lower on-board memory held by the Dream. The Magic will be able to operate the new version of Google’s Mobile OS and so expect many of your Dream wielding counter-parts to flip the switch.

But it won’t come cheap (even though it is free). You have to be willing to fork over another 3 year contract (renewal) in order to gain from this entire experience. So perhaps Dream owners are weary of making a quick decision?

• You can upgrade to a Magic for free, all right, but you’re going to have to renew your contract for another Canadian-standard three years.
• This applies for those who activated a new HTC Dream before Jan. 1, 2010.
• You must upgrade to the Magic by Jan. 26, 2010.
• The upgrades have to be done through Rogers’ Customer Care (888-Rogers1).

I do not think I’m out too far on a limb if I say that any cell phone user who can handle the Android OS can also manage troubleshooting these steps alone with no assistance as well. There is something about wireless carriers and customer service that just never seems to make sense. This is proof in the pudding!

Courtesy of iPhone Alley: Essentially the AirStash is an SD card reader with a battery, a web server, and 802.11b/g wireless built-in. The USB port is used for charging and managing data from a computer. Accessing the device on a phone is done in the browser and it supports SDHC cards of up to 32GB.

This is most definitely noteworthy and you can bet on my getting one of these puppies. It’s got to be fairly convenient, however I wonder about security. Presumably it has built in security, but is that any good anymore?
